In preparation for the PANCE, my plan is to start studying about four weeks prior to the day I am scheduled to take the exam.
To guide my studying, I have reviewed my PAEA feedback reports from the didactic and clinical PACKRATS, End of Curriculum Exam, and End of Rotation exams and identified my weakest subject areas so that I can dedicate greater focus into strengthening my knowledge regarding the topics in each category, including clinical intervention, clinical therapeutics, diagnostic studies, diagnosis, treatment, health maintenance, history and physical, and scientific concepts for specific diseases or disorders.
The main question bank I plan on utilizing is Rosh Review, as I have found it to be very helpful when studying for all of the exams I have taken thus far. My goal is to do 75-100 questions per day using the Pomodoro technique of timed 25 minute sessions [1 minute per question] with 5 minute breaks between each Pomodoro. I would like to complete all of the questions on Rosh and either attempt to re-peat as many as possible if time allows or incorporate Kaplan questions, as I have done the majority of questions for each End of Rotation exam on SmartyPANCE and do not find them as challenging. In completing the questions, I will spend time going through each explanation for both correctly and incorrectly answered questions and repeat incorrectly answered questions afterwards. I also plan to complete two timed full length 300 question exams to build stamina and endurance for the length of the PANCE.
I will primarily use PANCE Prep Pearls to review my weakest subject areas followed by the review courses on SmartyPANCE for weaker topics identified on the End of Rotation exam feedback reports. I will also use additional resources, such as Up To Date, Osmosis, and Access Medicine, for more detailed information and analysis of topics I am weakest in. Additionally, I will review the topics other classmates have posted as Clinical Wikis and AMS assignments under the Clinical Component online Blackboard course, as many diseases and disorders are conveniently located in one place for easy accessibility. Lastly, I will review PowerPoint slides from didactic year as well as pharmacological drugs using the Basic Concepts in Pharmacology: What You Need to Know for Each Drug Class text on Access Medicine, which was recommended by Dr. Davidson.
I will also be attending the free board review offered by the program. The outline of the review provided demonstrates time dedicated to GI/Nutrition, Dermatology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Disorders, Cardiology, Pulmonology, ENT, Musculoskeletal and Rheumatology, Endocrine, Neurology, Hematology, Reproductive, Renal, Genitourinary, Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases, and Pediatrics. Based on the allotted time per subject area on the schedule provided, I will review the major topics to be covered in accordance with the outlined schedule.
