Emergency Medicine Site Visit Summary

My mid and final site evaluations were both conducted via Zoom this rotation – with the site evaluator and one other student who was rotating at a different site. At the beginning of the mid evaluation, I presented two patient cases – the first one being a vasovagal syncope case and the second one being a pyelonephritis case. We discussed each case after my presentations, and my site evaluator asked follow-up questions and answered any questions I had, such as starting empiric IV antibiotics for pyelonephritis in the ED versus not doing so and instead discharging patients home with PO antibiotics. We then discussed such management in the setting of complicated [i.e. unstable vitals, higher grade temperature] versus uncomplicated pyelonephritis. My classmate then proceeded to present her two case presentations. Afterwards, we each presented our pharm cards.

During our final site evaluation, we each presented one patient case followed by a journal article related to our cases. This meeting, I presented a case about a patient who presented with scabies, which was interesting as I have not had much exposure to dermatologic cases until this rotation. We then presented our pharm cards.
