OB/GYN Site Visit Summary

My mid and final site evaluations were conducted in person this rotation, as my site evaluator/preceptor was scheduled in clinic at the same time. Both site visits were one-on-one. I presented my drugs cards at the beginning of each visit then presented one patient case each time. We discussed each case after my presentations, and my site evaluator answered any questions I had, providing greater clarification. For example, while abscesses are considered infections and more often than not present with fever, fever is not necessarily a presenting symptom for a Bartholin gland abscess. Though, it is considered an abscess and not a cyst. During my second visit, I also presented a journal article related to the patient case I had presented regarding ultrasound of molar pregnancies. My site evaluator noted how it is difficult to distinguish a complete molar pregnancy from a partial molar pregnancy and the importance of following up with pathology in cases where a dilatation and curettage is completed. Additionally, in cases where patients present with vaginal bleeding and no intrauterine pregnancy is noted on ultrasound, he emphasized the need to rule out ectopic pregnancy and always have it on the differential.
