My mid and final site evaluations were conducted remotely via Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The mid site evaluation was conducted in a group setting, where I met with my site evaluator and one other student, who was also completing her LTC rotation at another facility. Both the other student and I presented one patient case after which our site evaluator asked follow-up questions and provided constructive feedback. She emphasized the importance of noting specific physical exam findings pertinent to each diagnosis listed in the differential, which was useful in ultimately narrowing down the differential. My final site evaluation was conducted one-on-one with my site evaluator during which I presented another patient case. During this meeting, my site evaluator noted the possibility of other causes for the patient’s presentation, as an identifiable source had not been found. This actualized the reality that some cases are more complex than others, and stabilization of the patient can be the most important intervention when the answers are not immediately clear.
